Today in class Mr. Bruns was in Minnesota at a basketball game so we had a research day. The Pacific Front or War was basically the war between the United States and Japan in the Pacific during WW2. It began with Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor and British Malaya by the Japanese which caused the United States to declare war upon Japan on December 8 1941. The Japanese had invaded Manchuria in 1931 and then China in 1937 which caused them to be at war and to need wartime goods which they seized to get from the United States. This led to the United States island hopping campaign to the Japanese mainland with some help from other Allied Powers.
Participants:
---The Axis powers helped Japan but they mainly had their own wars to fight. The government of Thailand sided with the Japanese after they were invaded which sent forces to take their land occupied by the British. Japan used enlisted men from Korea and Taiwan, some from Vichy French, India, Burma, and a few German and Italian soldiers. These were mainly were armed merchantmen and subs in the Pacific.
---The Allies that were in the war was mainly the United States with the assistance of China, UK, British controlled India, Australia, Phillipines, Netherlands (Dutch East Indies), New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, and free French.
