We watched more of Planet in Peril today. They went to visit a village in the Amazon Rain Forest. The Indians in the rain forest fight to keep their land and make sure no one is cutting down trees. About 80% of the developed world's diet comes from the Amazon. Lots of ingrediants in make-up and also cancer-fighting medicine comes from the Amazon also. About 1500 square miles of forest dissapears each year. In America, a ship channel in Texas caused a little boy to get cancer. According to a study from the University of Texas, kids who live within 2 miles of the ship channel have a 56% greater chance of getting lukemia than others. The poor are the ones who usually are affected by these effects. There's no law restricting pollutants that factories put out. In all the places they visited, all the problems are interconnected. During this centuty, millions of people will be affected. A minimum of 25% of all carbon emmissions come from the rain forest. I think it's just terrably sad and I can't see how some people don't care or don't think it's an issue. We went over our Europe map for a while. STUDY THIS WEEKEND!!!!! Test is Monday/Tuesday!
