Today we went over our Europe map. I'm getting better, actually! YAY! That makes me happy, and also more motivated since I know I can actually learn it. Trey did his powerpoint on speices destruction. It's when a species is becoming endangered or extinct. It is one of the greatest environmental worries surpassing global warming and pollition. We care about it because of the value of seeing it -- imagine never seeing a polar bear again. The option of seeing it and the existence value. Nearly 40% of 44,838 species catalogued are listed as 'threatened' with extinction, with 3,000 of them classified as 'critically endangered'. Fishing nets, boat strickes, toxic wastes and sound pollution from military sonar kill up to 1,000 air-breathing, ocean-dwelling mammals every day. Organizations that help with prevention are the Wildlife Conservation Society and the National Wildlife Federation. We can cut the rings apart on 6 packs, report any illegal poaching or dumping, recycle, and avoid supporting the market in illegal wildlife including tortoiseshell, ivory and coral. Makayla was sick so she'll have to finish her presentation next week. We then did some blog discussions. Matt's topic was a suicide bombing in Pakistan. It killed 6 adults and 1 child. The car had 551 pounds of explosion in it. Trey's blog was about a kid who was calling to the office for imappropriate behavior from a picture taken by a camera on a laptop from the school. The camera was suppost to be used to tell when the computers go missing. The webcams would turn on even when they weren't using it, and kids are complaining. Isaac's blog was about two top Al-Quida leaders being killed. The leader of the military forces was killed. Now they have to find a new leader and it might slow down some of the bombing they do. 16 other suspects were arrested and only 1 United States soldier ws killed during the event. Courtney's was on Obama's new nuclear policy. He's trying to get rid of all nuclear weapons in the world, starting with the United States. It's stopping all our development so we can't further our nuclear research.
