Pacific Front continued..

Battle of Iwo Jima

• The goal was to captured 2 airfields.
• Americans won at the start
• Americans captured Iwo Jima.
• Japan had more deaths because they faught till the death.

Battle of MIdway

• Most important naval battle.
• Japan's plan was to lure in US aircraft carriers and extend defense perimeter.
• US knew that attack was coming
• They set an ambush

• US dropped 2 atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
• Japanese surrendered after the second one on August 15, 1945.
• That ended World War 2.

African Front continued...

Erwin Rommel - German General

• He was defeated by Germany, he killed himself.
• He was part of the plan to assassinate HItler.
• He was HItlers body guard at one time.

U.S. General Patton

• He was known to carry pistols with ivory handles.
• George S. Patton.
• After World War 1 he held some jobs in Hawaii and Washington D.C.

Italian/ Mediterranean Front

Generals

• Dwight D. Eisenhower
• He was a 5 star general.
• He was also our president later on after the war.
• Harold Alexander
• He was a British officer.
• He fought in the invasion of Sicily.
• George S. Patton
• He beat people alot for no real reason.

Axis Generals

• Benito Mussollini
• He was the Italian General.
• Rodolfo Graziani
• He was commander in chief.
• He was in the invasion of Sicily.

Battles

• Invasion of Sicily.- very grousom and lost many lives
• Battle of the Atlantic - it was an all naval battle
• Battle of Ortona - it was a battle in a town in Italy
• Battler for Rome - it was a major battle because Rome is Italy's capitol and they thought that if you capture Rome you capture Italy

Italian Campaign

• The German forces in Italy surrendered on May 2, 1945.
• Later became known as the forgotten front and some of the soldiers called themselves the D-Day Dodgers.
• After the allies had won against Geramny in North Africa they wanted to go up against the Italian forces. At this time they were not ready to invade Germany or France yet, and decided to invade Sicily.
• It lasted the entire war.
