--by 1944 German army pushed back into Germany-battle of Aachen
--battle of Metz-city in france
--Sigfried Line-like Maginal Line in France only built in Germany
--Battle of the Bulge-deadlist battle, in Adennes Mountains, Germany's last major offensive blow, tried to get to the sea, last effort to win war
--allow Soviets to move into Berlin, set stage for Cold War, Germany split into 4 sectors, Berlin split into 4 too
Pacific Front
--basically war between US and Japan
--began with attacks on Pearl Harbor and British Malaya
--Japan needed resources for own war; not getting from US
--attacled Hong-Kong and Phillipines as well
--took over Thailand
--came down finger of Thailand to Malaya; took easily in 24 hours
--take Phillipines to keep US from having base that close
--McArther got word that there might be attack but did nothing
--attacked next day and were overwelmed
--vowed to return
