Today for about the first ten minutes we took a pre-test over what would be on our semester test. I only really knew how to answer one of the seven questions. I look forward to learning this questions and being able to work on my final blog throughout the semester. Then we did more eighth grade review blog topics. We talked about the Mexican-American War and also the Lincoln Presidency.Mexican-American War- The United States went into disputed land and tricked the people of Mexico into fighting. Following the war we took over 55% of Mexico's land. Upper class Americans were ashamed of this war because they thought it was a war of aggresion, but regular American's were excited about the war because they got updates from a telegraph. It was a very unethical war.Lincoln Presidency- Licncoln was responsible for th efirst income tax, nationalizing Thanksgiving, the firstTranscontinental Railraoad, recreating the National Bank, and the Homestead Act which gave cheap land away in the West to anyone so it would become more inhabited. The South seceded after Lincoln was elected. He had two goals for the Civil War, they were defend the capital and make it a fast and easy war. Grant was the first general to listen to Lincoln and follow Confederate soldiers into the South. He had two very important speeches, The Gettysburg Address and The Emancipation Procalamation. He was assanated by John Wilkes Booth. Booth was a spy and killed Lincoln because he was very racist.Today I learned how the Mexican-American War started, and why most people think that it was a bad move on our countries part. I also learned that this was the first war where people got updates from the telegraph. I also learned what Lincoln was responsible for during his presidency and what his goals of the Civil War were.
