ok, so i had the assigned blog and the project backwards. the one with chapter 8, with lots of people per group, is the assigned blog, and the one with chapter 6 (for me its chapter 6 anyways) with our 3 person groups, is the powerpoint project. the assigned blog we have until sunday to finish, but the powerpoint we have next week to work on.
so...we are continuing with talking about the other assigned blogs after recapping on what we said yesterday.
11) i admit to spacing on this one.
12) are the accomplishments of pres washington, jefferson, and jackson. George Washington, being the first president, set the standards for future presidents. He stepped down after 2 terms (this was before the amendment that set a limit for how many times one could be elected). he set up the cabinet, the treasury, the supreme court, etc. Jefferson purchased the Luisianna purchase, greatly expanding the usa. Jackson strengthened the role of the federal government; also forced Native Americans out of their homes to make way for Americans (trail of tears)
13) War of 1812; faught between usa and Great Brittan. GB attacked Chesapeake Bay and seized american sailors and refusing to let them go (impressment), so the pres signed a declaration of war. Treaty of Gent ended war. effects: usa gained respect from GB. usa also became more like actual united states.
14) Texas war for independence....a war between the mexican government and the american settlers on the land. the mexican government tried to force catholicism on them, told them to free their slaves, learn spanish, and renounce their american citizenship. so they fought about it. Remember the Alamo and stuff. Texas one, became independent, "the lone star", etc, for a few years, then joined usa.
15) causes and effects of the Mexican American war- causes- territory disputes. america thought it was as far down as the rio grande, while mexico thought it was farther north. so usa sent troupes down to protect the settlers there. mexico assumed it was an invasion and so they fought about it. effects- usa won, gained a lot of land. and mexico didnt like us very much. treaty of guadaloupe hidalgo- we got california and today's southwest usa, back then was 50% of mexico's land. we did pay for it tho, 15$ million, i think.
16) reasons we moved west in our early history- gold rush of 1849. mormons moved west to utah for religious freedom. farmland, new opportunities, escaping legal issues, for adventure, etc. Manifest Destiny.
17) major events, compromises, and incidents leading up to the civil war---the underground railroad helped slaves escape- Harriet Tubman main conductor.
out of time. continuing with 17 monday.
