Today Tara and Zack are going to finish their project and then we are going to have a workday for our cold war projects. My topic for the cold war project is House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC). http://www.nps.gov/archive/elro/glossary/huac.htm. This webiste talks about what the committee was created to do. "The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) was created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees, and those organizations suspected of having Communist ties."

The website, http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAhuac.htm, talks a lot about the committee interviewing people in Hollywood because they thought that people were promoting communism in the movies. In 1947 the HUAC began an investigation into the Hollywood Motion Picture Industry. "In September 1947, the HUAC interviewed 41 people who were working in Hollywood. These people attended voluntarily and became known as "friendly witnesses". During their interviews they named several people who they accused of holding left-wing views."

The website, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_blacklist, talks about the Hollywood Blacklist, which were movies that were accused of promoting communism. "In October 1947, a number of persons working in the Hollywood film industry were summoned to appear before the House Committee on Un-American Activities, which had declared its intention to investigate whether Communist agents or sympathizers had been surreptitiously planting propaganda in U.S. films."
