8. What is segregation? Seperation of races. Plessy v Ferguson 1896 started segregation "seperate but equal", Brown v The Board of Education of Topeka Kansas started desegregation. What did progressives do to help African Americans? Did very little. Maybe somethings that helped the poor helped the blacks a little, but nothing directly to them to help. Woodro Wilson kind of used blacks to get votes, he didn't support an anti- lynching bill, he segregated DC, he was a progressive and didn't really help the blacks.14. What is socialism? Helping people, the government is in charge of everything an d they want to make it all even with how much money everybody has. How was it started in the United States? Gueen V. Debs ran for president five times, hard core socialist. In prision for trying to stop a coal strike. He thought capitalism was going to ruin countries. He was the face of socialsm for a long time and was a big pusher for socialism.16. What did businesses do to bring better efficiency to their business? "Time is money", people wanted to find ways to save money and time. Frederick Taylor did studies so that it wouldn't take as long to do a simple thing, assembly lines came in and it made it more efficient. Henry Ford paid workers $5 a day to make people work harder.17. Describe the major social changes that affected women during the Progressive Era. Before women were with their men, didn't work outside the home, couldn't vote, didn't leave the house. During the Progressive Era women started to get more education and were for prohibition. A lot of women wouldn't get married quickly anymore because they liked their freedom. Title 9 passed in 1972 allowed women to start playing sports. Some people were mad about this because mens sports suport started going down. A lot of this was based on education, that's the main point of this topic.-Breann Lehr
