Today Asia and I presented on Chapter 8 Section 3. The questions for this sections are..What laws and restrictions were put on African-Americans and other minorities after Reconstruction ended?One law that was put on African American's were the Jim Crow Laws. These laws were made to seperate blacks and whites in public or private places. New Laws were made so that Africans would not be able to vote. These laws included an annual poll tax, they had to pass a literacy test, and the grandfather clause. Most Africans could not pay the poll tax, and they were usually given a harder literacy test then whites. The grandfather clause said that if your grandfather voted before a certain date then you could vote, but this did not apply to Africans because their grandfathers were slaves and could not vote.Explain the significance of Plessy v. Ferguson.Plessy v. Ferguson legally set up segregation in the U.S. Supreme Court in 1896. It stated the phrase "Seperate but Equal", as long as they were given equal facilities, then they could be segregated. Legal segregation lasted for 60 years. Southern State gov't never allowed blacks equal facilities. Really "Seperate and Unequal".Explain what people did for entertainment in the late 1800's and early 1900's.During the 19th century, people began to enjoy recreational activities and cities were being made to look better. I learned that I activity that they started to do more of was sports. They started to play sports like tennis, baseball, and boxing became very popular and people listened to it on the radio. People also started to go to amusements parks, on the most popular was Coney Island. I learned that people also started to ride bicycles and read much more than before. Antoher thing that I learned was that horse racing started to become more popular.
