In New Delhi, India on August 25,2009 a baby boy was born with his heart coming out of his chest. His father said they did not know about this condition called ectopia cordis because they had not gone in for pre-natal care. It is a very rare condition and only effects between five and eight cases out of one million live births. To save his sons life, the father made a 1100 km train ride with his son to The All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors were surprised the baby had even survived the train ride there with all the things wrong with him, including dehydration and a servere infection. Tomorrow (Thursday), the baby is having a complex surgery. For now, the babies heart has been covered with synthetic membrane. The baby also suffers from immuno-deficiency, will be in a stage for a half hour during his surgery where his blood will be cooled down to 18 degrees.
