Free Choice Blog (Week 7)

Just last Friday, 4 children were having an ordinary school-day in their town of Frankfurt, Germany. They were outside before school, just messing around, when they stumbled upon a brown envelope. Inside the envelope, they discovered approximately 15,000 euros, or $22,000. Instead of reporting the envelope to an authority figure, they began handing the money out to their friends. One child, however, saw fit to do the right thing; they told a teacher. Soon after, they children were told to return the money (although they never managed to get the full amount back).Police were called to the scene and the owner of the money was determined to be a 33-year old Afghan-German man from Offenbach, Germany, identified by important documents (including a passport copy) in the envelope. However, the man didn't know the exact amount of money in the envelope, so they don't know how much money the children still have.I personally don't know what I would have done if I had found 22,000 dollars outside my school. But, I probably would have turned it in, instead of passing it out to all my friends. And, if i hadn't turned it in, i still wouldn't have passed it out to all my friends...maybe just a few, but I'd keep most of it. That's IF i didn't decide to turn it it, which I would. My conscience is too strong for me to not turn in a large amount of money like that.Image and video hosting by TinyPicPicture of euros.Image and video hosting by TinyPicMap of Germany; Frankfurt is in the upper part of the bottom half, near the middle. Offenbach is not shown, but it is near Frankfurt (to the west).

  • What if you found that type of money on the side of the road or somewhere else? Turning it in is the right thing to do of course.
