Starting Tuesday September 1st most robocalls will be illegal. robocalls are the prerecorded messages that telemarketers use to reach a lot of people with little effort. Businesses that use these calls after Tuesday will face fines of up to $16,000 per call. Not every robocall will be banned. These include calls from politicians, public service announcements and "informational" calls. The ban is mainly to keep companies from forcing their products on consumers with these calls. Banks, telephone carriers and charitable companies are also excluded from the ban as long as there aren’t any complaints. The FTC would like people who still receive these calls and are unsure about their legality they should go to their complaint website. As another way to keep away from the calls people can sign up for the federal “do not call” registry. However should people still wish to receive robocalls they need to give the company written consent.StoryTelemarketing office
