There is a couple from Mexico that are illegal immigrants. The wife is 45. She has lost her eye sight from diabetes. She has high blood pressure and her kidneys are failing. Her husband is 43 and he has always taken her to a dialysis clinic attached to a public hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. The place that gave her free health care is going to close on Saturday. They are illegal immigrants that don’t have health care insurance and they don’t have anywhere to go so that his wife can get what she needs. The clinic that is planning to close said that they would help get them back to Mexico. The clinic in Georgia is the latest known case of helping send illegal immigrants back to where the came from who can’t afford treatment.
Hospitals have offered medical transfers to foreign countries. However there is not nationwide data tracking this. They do not know how many undocumented patients have gone back to their countries. They also don’t know if the hospitals volunteered to help send them back to their homeland.Last year a hospital in Chicago, Illinois was going to discharge an undocumented patient to Mexico. But the man died while his family fought to stop the deportation. Another situation that happened was in a Stuart, Florida hospital. They were sending the illegal immigrant back to Guatemala. He had brain damage. While the man was at the hospital he had made a bill that was $2 million dollars in unpaid medical bills. In July a jury from Florida cleared the blame for these actions.The couple from Atlanta Georgia only identified their initials. The husbands initials are G.L and the wife’s initials are A.L. They also rejected the offer to return to Mexico. They rejected it because they had seen bad medical outcomes there. The wife’s mother, sister, and niece died of kidney failure in that country.I think that they should help them by giving them treatments. They are human beings and if we have the technology and knowledge we should help those who need it.I also think it’s not fair that they don’t have to pay for it. They don’t pay taxes or anything for our country so they shouldn’t have the privilege to free health care.
