Once every four years the torch is lit, and athletes unite from all over the world to compete to find out who is the best of the best. Some kids have had the torch lit in them ever since they were little. They have had the burning desire their whole life to be the best. Obama went to Copenhagen, Denmark to speak about having the Olympics in his adopted hometown Chicago. He, and his wife Michelle, spoke to the International Olympic Committee about how Chicago is the best place to host the Olympics and to bring the world together. The four candidates were Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, Tokyo, and Chicago. President Obama was the first President to ever go to the International Olympic Committee and try to persuade them in having Chicago host the 2012 summer Olympics.Around the Rings, classified each hosting place in eleven categories to see which one would be the best candidate to host the 2012. Rio took the lead only by one point. Rio de Janeiro is a city in Brazil, in South America. Rio de Janeiro had 84, Chicago had 83, and both Madrid and Tokyo were given 80. Some of the things they classified them on was security, venue plan, and public support. This is the first time that the Olympic Games have ever been to South America. There are some problems with having it in Brazil. There might be some issues with safety, because there are lot of drug gangs there. The good news is the homicide rate has dropped, but it is still very high compared to the other candidates it was going against. Every country has some type of violence, but brazil has never had any terror attacks. It will also boost the economy by giving more jobs to people. This is the logo for 2012 summer Olympics of Rio. It is shaped like a heart because they love sports. It has the flags colors; green, yellow, blue, and white. It would have been really neat to have the Olympics in United States, but I wouldn’t have wanted it to be in Chicago. Even if we did have the Olympics here how would be able to pay for it, since we are already in so much debt. It would have cost over 3 Billion to pay for it. On a different subject, I cannot wait for the Olympics to be in Rio. I went to the Olympic trials in Omaha where I saw Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin and Dara Torrez compete and qualify for the Olympics, and I will never forget that day.
Thats really cool i went to the trials in Omaha too. I want to go the trials when they have them in 2012 i want to try out. I heard about that it might be in Chicago and your right about the whole debt thing that would pose a problem. And if i did make it its cool that its i Rio thats on my list of places i want to go.
