Franz Ferdinand- World War 1

Franz Ferdinand was a royal prince of Hungary and Bohemia and an heir presumtive to the Austro-Hungarian throne. He married Sophie Chotek but she wasn't royallty so after he finally got consent to marry her, she wasn't considered royal or even equal to her husband.

On Sunday, June 28th 1914, Franz and Sophie were both killed in Sarajevo. Gavrilo Princip shot Sophie in the abdomen and Franz in the jugular, they both died minutes after. Before they died Franz said to Sophie, "Don't die darling, live for my children".

The arms race, nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and the alliance system put together with his assasination tipped off World War 1. His assasintation was an excuse for Austria-Hungary to take action against Serbia. In July of 1914 they pulled in major Eurpean powers and the result was war.http://www.montana.edu/webquest/socialstudies/grades6to12/herrin/imag0378.jpg
