Watergate:

The Watergate was a political scandal during the 1970’s. There was a break-in at the Democratic National Committee Headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. Because of this scandal President Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974. Also some of Nixon’s administration officials were convicted. 5 men broke into the DNC headquarters on July 17, 1972. The FBI connected the men to the 1972 Committee to Re-elect the President by a slush fund. Former staff members testified against them. The President had tape recording systems in his office. The tapes told that the President had tried to cover up the break-in. There were several battles in the Supreme Court and Nixon had to hand over the tapes. He faced near impeachment and then resigned.
