Monday- Italy 

Major Powers of World War II:

-Germany,Italy,Japan,United States,Great Britain,Soviet Union 

- Joined the league of nations and was a member from 1919 to 1937. 

- 5 power act- it limited construction of battleships, battle cruisers and aircraft carriers- signed by Great Britain, the US, Japan, France, and Italy. ( This ain't a scene, its an armsrace) 

9 power act- guaranteed Chinese independence and upheld the open door policy

-Italy was mad about WW1- Treaty of Versailles- Mussolini's rise to power

-wanted Italy to become a world power again 

-Not prepared 

Basic Facts- Death count-410,000-330,000 

- depended on Germany to bail them out 

-Tell us about their leader(s) during WWII

     -background

    -how they came to power- formed the fascist  group in Italy-Prime minister 

Victor Emmanuel III- Was the king- monarchy- went into exile after losing power by a vote. No one wanted a monarchy- Wanted to keep communists out of Italy

(Italy is still a republic today)

     -how they lost power- was voted out by his own people 

-Discuss the impact of their Homefront and propaganda and what it was like in their country during the war 

-Laborers lower- Everyone not in the war worked- daily bombings- Italy was not used to being bombed 

-Propoganda- Anti British, Nationalism, Pro Germany, Getting people to do their part 

-Discuss major battle strategies- Fascism 

-Strong nationalism in a country lead by a dictatorship 

-Didn't want to fight a two front war 

- Started the war in North Africa 

-Discuss major battles that the country was involved in 

-Battle of Britain, African Campaign, Invasion of France, The Mediterranean, Eastern Front, The Atlantic  

-Discuss other people/generals from their country in WWII that had a major impact on the war

- Benito Mussolini- Allied with Germany- Forced Italy to go to war even though they weren't ready- replaced by pietro Badolgio- Mussolini shot and hung upside down 

Facism- A government led by a strong dictator- strong nationalism, militarism. and imperialism 

Pietro Badolgio- Chief of Staff of Italian Army (1940) singed armistice with allies 

- Arturo Riccardi- Chief of staff of the navy- forced to step down with Mussolini 

Vittorio Ambrosio- Cheif of Staff- told mussolini to get out of the war 

- Demoted to inspector general of army- Allies did not trust him 

Italy's switch-  After Mussolini was killed Pietro Badolgio signed an armistice with the allies. A month after they declared war on germany and was now with the allies 

- Italy provided morre troops 

- became a republic 

- economy was a wreck- had to rebuild 

kellogg- Briand Pact - countries pledged not to use war as a way to settle disputes 

- Invaded Ethiopia
