Similar goals to Germany (allied with Germany to get what they wanted) (wanted to "recreate the Roman Empire)

Leaders- Mussolini- gained power by making a fascist group, stormed the government (threatened the government), voted out by his own Grand Council (seemed as though he wanted out)

Prime Minister Pietro Badoglio-

Victor Emmanuel 3- became King because of family, lost power in 1946 by public opinion forced a vote Monarchy or Republic, went off in exile and died in Alexandria, Egypt

Home-front- laborers lower, everyone no in the war worked, daily bombings

Propaganda- Anti-British and Western American, Pro Germany, Nationalism

Battle strategies- Fascism (strong nationalism), didn't want to fight a two front war, too ambitious, North Africa- Libya, Aided Germany in most affairs

Major battles- North African Campaign, Battle of Britain, Invasion of France, The Mediterranean, Eastern Front, and the Atlantic

Other Important People- Pietro Badolgio- Chief of Staff in 1940, replaced Mussolini, signed armistice with allies

Benito Mussolini- forced Italy into the war

Arturo Riccardi- Chief of staff of the Navy, forced to step down with Mussolini

Vittorio Ambrosio- Italian army chief of staff, helped negotiate armistice with Allies

Won or Lost of the War- Fascist Italy was forced into the war and weren't really big (small army)

Provided more troops with the Allies, brought the allies closer to Germany and the Axis Powers

-Major events- Treaty of Versailles, Recession/Depression, Hitler became dictator, Treaty of Friendship- Italy, Rome-Berlin Axis, Kristallnacht, Nuremberg Laws

-Basic Facts- 7,375,800 people died, cost $2-3 trillion

Axis Powers- Germany, Italy, Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria

Goals- Raise status, Dominate Europe, Lebensraum, Undo Versailles, Pure blood (holocaust)

Leaders-

Home-front- constantly being bombed, Jews were being rounded up and taken to a concentration camp, food was scarce, thousands of civilians died

Bombings- 25 million, bombing raids(practice), 1939-1945, 7.5 million people homeless, 3.6 million homes destroyed

Propaganda- Promote Militarism, out of debt, Treated people terribly, Nationalism, Hitler youth, Aryan race (Blonde Hair/Blue Eyes)

Nazi Propaganda- Target is Jews, Holocaust (sacrifice by fire), Jews were banned from everything, cause of debt, "The Final Solution"

Aryan Race/Lebensraum- "German Breeding", adoption, racial purity, kidnappings

Major battle strategies- No two-sided wars, Non-aggression pact with Soviet Union, Very Offensive, '43 they turned deffensive

Battle of Britain- aircraft, Summer and Fall of 1940, turning point in the war for the English, Germans defeated

Operation Barbarossa- Invasion on the Soviet Union, started in Poland, Finland, and Romania

Lost War- Mistrust, Listening, Never Retreat, weren't prepared for Russian Winters(Soldiers weren't used to it, no warm clothing, left too late), Battling two fronts, Battle of Britain
