- Started in 1908 during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt to identify criminal acts
- John Hoover was the first director- 1921-1933 (Peal mission) were the lawless years and 1935 were the federal bureau of investigation
- Protect states from terrorists (protects from cyber attackers and civil rights like human trafficking and public corruption at all levels, break up gangs/ violence )
- Problems- Hitler escaped to Allied forces was a fake and hid in the Andes mountains, was heavily guarded and died in 95 in Brazil (that the FBI knew of it)
- J. Edgar Hoover talked to the mafia (he was threatened by them and tried to cover up some of their acts)
Secret Service-
- 3 blocks from the White house and 120 field offices - dozen offices in foreign countries
- 1300 officers, 2100 special agents, and 1700 more for support
- Guys in uniform division provide protection for White House
- Special Agents are for field operations and personal protection between several assignments

- First job was to counter counterfeiting- after 911 SS was moved Department of Homeland Security
- Idea started after Lincoln's death by started in 1865 by William P. Wood (This was during 3 president assassinations)-1951 started president protection
- Investigate fraud, main thing stop counterfeiting in the beginning, now main thing is to protect the president and stopping financial crimes

- Several agents got in trouble for partying throughout the night while they were supposed to be protecting the first family
- Agents with prostitutes and drinking all night when they were supposed to be preparing for Obama's visit.
Wednesday- Went over the South American map, and the last presentation over the secret service.
Thursday- Went over the first part of the South American map, reviewed for the current event test.
