Monday-

-It was a group of 12,000-15,000 WWI Vetreans

- Took wifes and kids to protest

- In the summer of 1932, 12-15,000 WWI Veterans went on strike against the government in DC

- Their wartime bonus was not enough and government was taking to long to pay it

- They got 50 dollars while they risked life

- Set up camps, hoovervilles, along the Anacostia river

-Did not like the idea sent amry to washington and try to send them home

- Made hoover look bad as he didn't care about veterans

- Government demanded the bonus, many people were wounded, riots, tear gas, not good image on his presidency

- Congress sent 100,000 to sned the Bonus Army home

-In 1934 a secind croud marched into DC, greeted with open arms, FDR and first lady recieved them but didn't get bonus, gave jobs and tasks

- FIfth cousins to Teddy Roosevelt, insipred by  Teddy from the election, was educated by private tutors, went to schools as Harvard, attended law school, worked as a clerk in a wall street, Married Teddy's niece and his own cousins Eleanor Roosevelt

-Ran for state senator as a democrat, he won in a highly republican area, 1913 assistant secretary for US Navy, help position for 7 years, toured naval bases and battlefields during WW1

- IN the summer of 1921, on a yacht in the bat of fundy, fell into icy waters, complained about lower back pain, diganosed with polio

- It is very rare to get with middle aged men

- In the fall of 1921 left politics for rehab, was fitted for knee braces in early 1922

-FDR nominated New Yorks govenor Alfred Smith for president twice

- FDR got elected as govenor in 1929 and was relected in 1930, front runner for 1932 president election

-Went to Chicago to accept nomination, democrats won everything, house senate and president relected in 1936, 1940, 1944

- Series of programs and projects, during great depression, aimed to restore prosperity, stablize ecnomy and provide jobs

- First New Deal- the first 100 days, but was a year long, tackle unemployment and banking crisis

- Farm Relief, helping farmers helped factories, factories relied on farmers

- Second New deal, created the works progress administration

- Focused on building things, like post offices, bridges, schools, highways, parks, also gave work to artists, writers, theater directors, musicians

-AAA, Large surpluses caused drops in prices, paid to not farm crops or livestock farm income 50% higher 

- Was ruled unconstunional in 1936 wasn't fair to farmers not to work and killing lifestock, New AAA in 1938 and wanted to fix problems and allowed AG support programs, provided crop insurance

Tuesday

- Soil Conversation Act 

- The Dust Bowl, Enchance Fedral State Coordination, discourage overuse of land, assist sharecroppers, create stable and crop prices

- President Roosevelt started the Hundred Days, great depression was ar it's darkest

- President Roosevelt would push 15 major bills, through congress and the bills reshaped the ecnonomy as banking industry, agricultural and welfare

- It helped America ge out the Great Depression in the 30's

- Banking, In just eight hours he closed all banks in one day, permitted failing banks to reopen under goverment supervision

- Allowed the RFC to buy the stock of troubled banks

- Firesidechats, they were speeches that Roosevelt would do over the radio, got the attetion of all people as he was talking to people directly, 13-44 minutes long

- Would refer back to founding fathers and inspirational american figures

- Would play the Star Spangled Banner after every message, patriotic message, he would remind everyone about God at the end of message, face the tasks ahed and be understanding and have faith

- Boosted the publics confidence, - Boosted Roosevelt's popular vote for election, overall it explained his policies to the public

- Series of programs and projects, during the great depression, provided relief and jobs

- Critics- harsh criticism and high prise, conservatives thought it made federal government to large and powerful, eliminate socialism and ecnomic equalites

- Roman Catholic Priest, radio sermons, ecnonmic political ideas, 40-45 milion, views appealed poor people, guranteed national income, american liberty league, believed FDR plan was viloating respect of rights and property

- Wednesday- No school

- Thursday notes

- Townshend- physician and health officer, didn't think FDR was helping the eldery enough, set a pension plan, eldery didn't like the new deal

- Sentator Huey Long- senator of Louisiana, wanted presidency himself, nationwide soical program, every man should be king, he promised something for everyone, 27,000 clubs and 75 million members, he was assianted by a lone gunman, roosevelt realized needed to do more

- Relief Recovery and Reform, president elected in 1932, Social Security to give social security and finicial security to the retired, the unemployed, disabled, funds for social security, after age of 62, citzens recieve a monthly pension check back from the government

- Reform, FDIC and bank Reform, banks were failing, rosevelt and congress passed emergency legislation to solve banking crisis, governement guaranteed saving deposits fo all Americans, trust private banks, when banks failed ensured money

- Recover, Agricultural Adjustment Act, The National Industrial Recovery Act, update roads, bridges and buildings

- Priming the Pump is processing to raise an ecnonomy, usually during a declined periods, due to intrest rate, tax reduction and government spending

-Judicial Procedures Reform Bill- called court packing plan, rooselvet wanted to expand supreme court to many as 15 judges, President FDR issued a proposal

- It would make it more efficent, critics immideatly charged, he wants to get his New Deal passed

- The previous two years the Supreme Court had shutdown his deal and said it was not right and to far left, had been struck down by unaminous votes

- Friday

- The plan failed to gather support the american people and espically the congress hold the seperation of all branches, roosevelt noted the need for younger people in both the judicial and excutive branches, but by 1942 all but two of the justices were apointees

- Hobos Hopping Freight Trains, hopping on a moving train was dangerous act but in the 30's hundreds of thousands of mean and women did it looking for work

- Dust Bowl- fedral governemnt tells farmers we need food and plow up land and plant crops and it led to the dust bowl and it had dessert like conditions, hit very hard and was super dry dust storms were miles long

- Okies-  people who moved to calfornia and were from oklohoma

- Boulder Hoover Dam- is located by Las Vegas, hoover started it and it helped create jobs
