Monday - Finished part 2 of the 1930s test.

Tuesday - 

WW2

  • Alliances:
    • Axis Powers - Germany, Italy, Japan
    • Allied Powers - Soviet Union, Great Britain, France, China, and USA
  • Treaty of Versailles
    • Land taken from Germany after WW1: (a lot of land)
      • Lost land to France, Belgium, Denmark, Czech, Poland
      • The Treaty of Versailles took so much away and Germany wanted it all back
    • Military
      • Germany's army reduced to 100,000 men, the army was not allowed tanks
      • Not allowed an airforce
      • Only allowed 6 capital naval ships
      • West of Rhineland was 50 kms east of the river .... Not was allowed to use land for military
        • No German solider or weapon allowed on the land
    • Financial
      • Had to pay $33 billion
      • Led to high inflation -- caused the German dollar to be absolutely worthless
      • Germany was forbidden to unite with Austria to form one superstate

Wednesday -

  • 4 Power Pact
    • treaty signed by US, Great Britain, France, and Japan in 1921
    • respect each other's possessions
  • 5 Power Pact
    • signed by GB, US, Japan, France, and Italy
    • designed to prevent an arm's race
    • it limited the construction of battleships, battle cruisers, and aircraft carriers
    • did not restrict cruisers, destroyers, or submarines
  • 9 Power Pact
    • guarenteed Chinese independance and upself the Open Door Policy
    • signed by US, Japan, China, France, GB, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, and Portugal
  • Kellogg-Briand Pact
    • countries that signed agreed to not go to war to settle disputes
    • 65 countries signed it
    • Including Germany, Austrailia, Canada, Czech, France, GB, India, Irish Free State, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, and the US were the original signers
  • London Naval Conference - 1931
    • concerned with the agreements reached in Washington Naval Conference
    • The UK, USA, France, Italy, and Japan attended
    • all 5 agreed to a five year halt on capital ship construction, tighers controls on submarine warfare, and the continuation of limits on aircraft carriers
  • The Impact of the Great Depression
    • Japan - had little resouces -- invade China in order to get resources
    • Germany - they were broke and wanted to take back what was "theirs"

Thursday - Movie.

Friday - No school.
