Italy was not happy after WW1, 5 Power pact- Great Britain, US, Japan, France, and Italy- limited number of naval ships countries found ways around it, 9 Power Pact- Guaranteed China's independence, Kellogg-Briand Pact- pledged not to use war as a way to settle disputes, Ethiopia invaded by Italy- wanted to undo an embarrassing loss, one of the worst colonial disasters, Ethiopia becomes Italian territory, League of Nations didn't like this. Wanted WW1 to be the war to end all wars, King Victor Emmanuel took over after Mussolini. Fascism-Govt led by a strong dictator, Strong nationalism, Strong Military, Use intimidation to get what they want, Axis Powers-Germany Italy Japan, Italy was weak, unprepared to fight, Italian troops were spread out, 410,000 deaths, spent 94 billion dollars, Italy joined the allies, Made sure that they became a democracy, US makes sure communism stops, gave millions to Italy so the y could rebuild, gave money to Japan, Italy joined NATO and UN,

Austria wanted to join Germany, Austria Annexed into Germany, Hitler wanted to reunite German speaking people, Munich Conference- Appeasement, Hitler was given what he wanted to stop him from starting wars, Hitler takes over Czechoslovakia, lied to them,
Soviet German Non-Aggression Pact- Germany and Russia Agreed not to fight, Russia gave raw materials to germany in exchange for money and weapons, Both agreed to stay neutral if the other entered the war, Secretly agreed to invade and split Poland, German would get the western half and USSR the eastern half, Russia would get Finland, Estonia and Latvia, Germany would Get Lithuania,
World Reaction of Non-aggression pact- Stock, Poland was scared, Hitler thought it would force Great Britain and France to back out of their promise to help Poland if attacked,
Blitzkrieg- Lightening Warfare- Swift, Air force bombs first, bombing transportation/communication, Panzers and tanks along with infantry invade, mechanized troops, encircle the enemy and make them surrender, 1939-Poland,1940- The Phony War- Winter set in, countries waiting for it to end, ends in the spring, Luxemburg, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, City of Dunkirk- Germans pushed forces into city of Dunkirk, Hitler said wait for the tanks, French and British soldiers evacuated to Great Britain
