Failed State - a state that has failed at some of the basic conditions and responsibilities of a sovereign government.
The first article called Falling Nation is about nations that are in major chaos. These countries are usually thrown into chaos after a major event like a civil war, natural disaster or a brutal take over. Some of these nations are unstable because of their location. One example is Syria because after the Iraq war a lot of refugees came into Syria.
The second article is called Shattered Somalia. This article is about a man named Mohammed’s life. Mohammed lives in a city called Mogadishu. Mohammed is 18 years old. He works as a fisherman and is his family’s only source of income.
Mohammed resents the fact that he had to quit school at 14 and work because his family could not afford to $10 monthly bill to send him to school and he had to quit because his best friend was killed and Mohammed couldn’t stand going to school. Mohammed’s father became disabled by a bomb that killed his neighbors and hit his father in the neck and rib cage.
Many of Somalia’s citizens believe that their country will never be at peace again. This violence has been going on for about 20 years. The jihadists don’t feed the citizens anymore and there is killing everywhere you go.
I believe that this is a horrible event. I can’t believe that this had been going on for this long and no one has stopped it. I can’t even imagine what these people are going through.
