Failed state Blog

Wikipedias Defination of a failed state is "a state whose central government is so weak or ineffective that it has little practical control over much of its territory." To me, this basically means that a coup d'état is in progress and that the people are either divided on the issue of whether to join the coup or the government, or that the government, backed by the people, are having trouble putting down the coup. Basicall, it can be summed up as a civil war on the grounds that two groups from the same country are fighting each other for control of the country. The first article I read made me think that countries in the Islamic World are thwarted in every step by the radical musilm groups of the Middle East. These groups feed off the stuggles that these nations have in becoming free and forming stable governments and provide radicals with guns so that they can overthrow the government and set up a government that can feed the radicals "holy war" against the US. These groups use the tragic events that might happen to a country such as floods and droughts, and use them to sway the people to their side that will eventually bind their liberties and take away all freedoms. This really only can work for Middle Eastern countries and African countries, since their Islamic faith can fool themselves to believe that the US is fighting a "holy war" against them and that by opposing their government, they are fighting the US.

Map of SomaliaThe second article I read made me think. If this group had links to al-Qaeda, why are we not taking them down in a joint effort to boost the government and find more links to al-Qaeda? If the people are starting to hate this group why don't we take the group down to boost Western influence in Africa and help so that the Musilm world sees that we just want to promote peace thoughout the world, with the first step being taking down al-Qaeda. Osama Bin Laden is going to pay dearly for his crimes against America.

  • One of the reasons we don't go into Somalia is that they do not want us there.
