Extra Credit Blog- Frost/Nixon

Frost/Nixon begins with a flashback of President Nixon resigning from his position on live television. At the same time, talk show host, David Frost, sees this on television during a break in his show. Later on, Frost gets the idea to interview Nixon and try to get him to apologize to the American people. His friend, Birt, is leery on whether Nixon would talk. The interview is set up, with a deal that Nixon will receive $600,000. Frost is a fortunate man but does not have this amount of money. He requests help from wealthy friends and hires two more researchers along with Birt to find information about Nixon.

The first 3 recording sessions are a disaster. Frost cannot seem to ask the right questions. Each question he asks, Nixon will dance around the bush by going off on another topic for 20 minutes. After the 3rd session, Frost knows the last session he has to make good. Already he is being called a terrible interviewer.

Frost gets a call from Nixon late one night. Nixon is severely drunk, and tells Frost that this last interview is a breaking point: one's career will excel, the other's will plummet. Frost takes action after this. He finally begins to research some himself, and sends Reston to the federal courthouse, like Reston wanted in the beginning. The last interview is very intense and Frost's work pays off. Frost interrupts Nixon when he rambles, sends him challenging questions, and causes Nixon to admit to the illegal actions he carried out. Nixon's chief of staff bursts in at this point, making sure Nixon wants to admit to everything. Nixon admits his crime to the camera. This movie had some very good information and was pretty interesting when I was paying attention. The downfall of it is that the climax happens at the very end and the rest of the movie is very blah. I probably wouldn't watch it again, yet if it was against a war movie, Frost/Nixon would be my choice.~Cora
