Al Gore, 45th vice president, has had many accomplishments, although he did not win the presidential election of 2000. He is a Nobel Peace Prize award winner and won an Academy Award in 2007.Gore attended Harvard University which was the one and only college he applied at. Gore’s plans were to be an English major, as he was writing a novel. His courses opened up new paths for him and he also became interested in environmental concerns and politics, after the Martin Luther King’s assassination. Gore decided to major in government.

Gore was not a supporter of the Vietnam War, but he enlisted to make a good impression on his father’s career. He also did not want someone to go in his place. Gore chose to volunteer for the US Army which he served in from 1969- 1971. After his basic training, he was assigned to Fort Rucker, Alabama, as a journalist and in 1979 was “Soldier of the Month”.

Gore was not sent to Vietnam right away, as he suspected that his father would gain sympathy votes if something happened to Gore. When he was finally sent, he was a journalist for The Castle Courier. In 1971, Gore received an honorable discharge. After this, Gore studied at Vanderbilt University Divinity School against his parents’ wishes. He also worked as an investigative reporter for The Tennessean. Although he never planned on becoming a minister, he went to Vanderbilt Divinity School for a year, as he was trying to make sense of actions challenging his beliefs.

Gore attended a lot of different schools. I think he had trouble dealing with the wrongs that went about the world, and was trying to find where he fit into all of the mess. Gore was very active in politics and wrote a few books.~Cora
