Dwight D. Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas on October 14, 1890. Dwight was number three of seven. One of his siblings died as an infant. His parents moved their family to Abilene, Kansas right after Dwight was born, they raised their family there. Dwight's father was very stern, but his mother was the opposite. His parents were both very religous. They had their own garden where they grew their own food. They would sometimes sell it for money. His father tried to teach him and his siblings to have a good work ethic. Dwight had to work to earn money, and he also had chores around the house to do every day.
As a child he attended a local school. He was an average student but excelled in sports. He was in baseball and was very good in football. After he graduated he wanted to go to college but couldn't afford it so went to work with his father in the creamery. Dwight's older brother also wanted to go to college. While Dwight worked he payed for Edgar to go to college. And while Edgar worked he payed for Dwight to go to college. Dwight tried to get into the US Naval Academy to play sports. He was too old for that school so he attended the Military Academy of West Point. He was not interested in going into the military, but he got to play football. He was so good that some sportswriters were looking at him. But during the season he faced a twisted knee that ruined his football career for good. He graduated in 1915.

But then in 1952 he announced he would accept the nomination and he got all the votes he needed to become president. Many people liked him for his personality and for what he did in the military. As president he believed that problems were solved better at the local level of people, rather than in Washington. Eisenhower served two terms as president. Through his presidency he saw Hawaii and Alaska become states, the end of the Korean war, and he was also very concerned with civil rights issues. He retired to a farm outside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In 1965 he suffered a heart attack, and after that he suffered many more. On March 28, 1969, Dwight D.
