Edwin L. Drake

Edwin L. Drake was one of the first to was the steam engine to drill into the ground in search for oil. In 1859, he was sucessful in doing so. Near the town of Titusville, Pennsylvania. In later years, an oil bomb began to occur through the states of Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and, later, Texas. Oil began bringing in a great amount of money and was starting to be used more usefully. Industries opened in Cleveland and Pittsburgh as entrpreneurs rushed to transform oil into kerosene.
