Democrat/Republican Project Notes

Abortion: Republicans support adoption rather than abortion. They strongly support efforts to educate teens about the health risks and consequences of sexual activity and also helping them make health choices. Abstinence from sex is the only protection that is 100% effective against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Therefore, we support more abstinence education funding. We oppose clinics that provide referrals, counseling, and other services for abortion.

Flag Burning: Republicans feel that flag burning is a form of expression that is spiteful and vengeful. They say that is designed to hurt, not to persuade. They support a Constituional Amendment to ban flag burning.

Gun Control: Republicans strongly support an individual right to own guns. We honor the great American tradition of hunting and want to increase access to hunting and safety programs for children and adults. We believe in the 2nd Amendment that gives citizens the right to bear firearms in their homes for self-defense. We defend the constitutional right to bear arms.

Environmental Laws: Republicans know that economic prosperity is essential to environmental progress. They want to reduce power plant emissions and clear up the skies.

Affirmative Action Laws: Republicans favor aggressive, proactive measures to ensure that no individual faces discrimination based off of race, national origin, gender, or other characteristics covered by our civil rights laws. They believe in the principle of affirmative access-taking steps to ensure that disadvantaged individuals of all colors and ethnic backgrounds have the opportunity to compete economically.

Immigration: Republicans want to strengthen our Border Patrol to stop illegal crossings, and equip the Border Patrol with the tools, technologies, structures, and sufficient force necessary to secure the border. They will seek stiff penalties for those who smuggle illegal aliens into the country and for those who sell fraudulent documents. They urge continued support for state, local, and federal law enforcement to work in a cohesive manner in securing our borders to prevent illegal entry. (They want to prevent illegal immigration.)

Health Care: Republicans reject any notion of government-run universal health care because they have seen evidence from around the world that government-run health care leads to inefficiencies, long waiting periods, and often substandard health care.

Taxes: Republicans believe that Americans are overly taxed. The weak link in the chain of prosperity is the tax system. It not only burdens the American people; it threatens to slow, and perhaps to reverse, the economic expansion.

Military Spending: Republicans want to increase military spending because they believe it will help with our defenses.

Death Penalty: Republicans support the death penalty. They support courts having the option to impose the death penalty in capital murder cases.

Gay Marriage: Republicans strongly support a Constitutional Amendment that fully protects marriage. The well-being of children is best accomplished when they have a mother & father who are bound in marriage. (They do not support gay marriage.)

Prayer In School: Republicans strongly support voluntary school prayer without government interferance. They strongly disagree with the Supreme Court’s rulings against student-initiated prayer.

U.S. Role in Iraq: Republicans support the War in Iraq and believe that it was a good idea to send in troops. They reject the idea of wanting to withdrawal U.S. troops in Iraq and say that we are making their situation better and that they will be better off when the war is over.

U.S. Role in Afghanistan: Republicans believe that the nightmare with Afghanistan and the Taliban is over and that everyone is safe now. They believe that Afghanistan's president is a good and just man and that the U.S. has no need to feel a threat from them anymore.

U.S. Role in United Kingdom: Republicans "attack" the United Nations and international law. They accuse the UN of being "scandal-ridden and corrupt" and having alleged discrimination against Israel. Republicans believe that the UN should not prevent our joining with other democracies to protect our vital national interests.
