This weekend I watched the movie Defiance with Brooke. It was very long but I did like it. It had Daniel Craig who played as Tuvia a Jewish man who had three other brothers. Both their parents were killed by the Nazis. They then hid in the forest and saw a bunch of other Jews they then went to hide in a German friend’s barn but there were too many of them and the Nazis almost found them. This made it dangerous for the friends as well. So they set off into the forest once again. There they met even more families in hiding and started to build a camp. They lived there for a while and one night they attacked German soldiers. They were almost caught and lost their hiding place when they attacked a milk man. They fought the soldiers that found them and again set off to build a new camp. Here they decided to sneak people out of the ghetto and they now had a small community that was gradually growing. Everyone had different jobs to help out. They made houses out of trees, they cooked lots of potato soup, and they also made clothes out of furs. The two brothers Zuhus and Tuvia got in a fight one day, Zuhus wanted to fight the Germans and Tuvia wanted to stay civil. They then split up Zuhus took some men and joined the Russians to fight and the rest of the colony stayed to live with Tuvia at the camp. Winter was creeping nearer and nearer and they food supply and patience was running low. Lots of the people were becoming very ill along with Tuvia. They soon ran out of food and started killing horses and dogs in order to survive. Tempers were short and a colonist wanted to take over the camp for the worse and Tuvia actually shot him. Things did get better once spring arrived. Even though babies were forbidden one was born by a Jewish woman. She had been raped by German soldiers and had kept it a secret. Tuvia’s lover had convinced him that a new life was a good thing. The Germans had found the community again and planes had bombed the area. Everyone ran and some fought against them. They hit an opening area where there was a river and they thought it was the end. Instead they had decided to keep going. They took off all their belts and connected them to one another and crossed the river. Once they made it across they were attacked again. Here I thought it was going to be the end because there were so many soldiers and tanks but it wasn’t. Zuhus and his part of the Russians soldiers attacked the Germans from behind saving the rest of the community. Zuhus and Tuvia were once again reunited. They then started to build the community over again together. This movie was very long but I liked it a lot. Daniel Craig is a great actor! This movie showed how hard it was for Jews to survive during WWII and how badly they were treated. I would reccomend this movie for others to watch and I am suprised that I have actually enjoyed watching all the WWII movies.
