We started by talking about our Rwanda blog. Mr. Bruns said that the United Nations had troops there, but then 10 people died so they pulled them out. Then they had some peacekeepers there, but then they left too. The United States didn't do really anything. Clinton said that that was his biggest regret. That he didn't do anything about it. Another thing he mentioned was that some people think that we didn't do anything, because it was a poor, black country. Also, Mr. Bruns said that all we ever she of Africa is that bad stuff and so he said that that was a discervice to them. Then we just went over some of the facts. Like 800,000 to 1,000,000 people were killed in 100 days. Some people don't know what genocide is. It is the intent to destroy a group like a different ethic group. Mr. Bruns said that a major problem in Africa is kid soldiers. He said that they steal children, brainwash them, and then make them fight for them. Then we talked about how they Tutsis were liked more by the Europeans, because they had lighter skin, were taller, and were usually skinnier. They then got better jobs and better education. Mr. Bruns pointed out the fact that the Hutus have caused a lot of deaths in the past years, and still today in the Conga. Then we watched this movie called Hotel Rwanda. That's what we learned about today in CWI.
