Today in CWI we continued watching the video on over population. They started in the Amazon Basin. The Amazon is a vital resource for the world. The Krakow would search for people who are cutting down the trees. A little boy got leukemia and was battling for his life. His mother was trying to find answers and she finally traced it back to how her neighbored smells. She says that they are so used to it they don't even notice it anymore. Earlier this year studies showed that children that lived close to ship channels have a higher risk of getting leukemia. We know all of this but we aren’t doing anything about it. This is because we don't have laws. In 2005 79% of blacks are more likely to live next to power plants and things like that. 1/3 less pollution in the ship channels just this year compared to last year because they brought companies together to stop global warming. There is not a law of how much air pollutants they can let out of their company.Next we talked about our blog assignments for the week which was about Rwanda. The Rwandan genocide was the slaughter for 100 people. It lasted from April 6, 1994 to July 18 1994. Tutsis were favored. They were all required to have an ID card that said weather they were Hutu or Tutsis. The Tutsis were the people that controlled the cattle so that helped them to believe they were better. There were more Hutu’s than Tutsi’s. The Hutu’s wanted the Tutsi’s gone. If this was happening in Europe the United Nations would step in and do something but since it’s in Africa we didn’t get involved. The definition of genocide is any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy in whole or in part a national, ethnical, racial or religious group as such.a.Killing members of the group.b.Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group.c.Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.d.Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the groups.e.Forcibly transferring children of the gourd to another group.
