Today in CWI we finished up watching the movie about over population. They started out in the Amazon River. The cronoco Indians are worried about illegal logging on their territory. Many people are coming onto their land and poaching as well. Many people are ruining the land of the Amazon River when it helps produce many things for people around the world such as the 75% of the 300,000 plants used for cancer treatments are located at the Amazon River. 20% of the worlds water sources are from the Amazon River and 18% of our food sources come from the Amazon River as well. Pollutants from factories give children that live within a 2 mile radius have a 56% chance of getting leukemia. There is no law stating that companies have to climate the amount of air pollutants they produce. By 2050 there will be 50% more people on the planet then there are now. People drink from polluted rivers and die in Beijing.We then began to talk about Rwanda in 1994. There are two groups the Hutu’s and the Tutsi’s. They had a bunch of tests they ran and they measured the heads of Hutu’s and Tutsi’s and the Tutsi’s head was larger then the Hutu’s. They then determined the Tutsi’s were superior to the Hutu’s. The Tutsi’s controlled the cattle. The Tutsi’s got the better jobs and the better land and more money than the Hutu’s. The Hutu’s did not like this at all. About 85% of Rwanda is made up of Hutu’s. The two presidents that were assassinated were coming to work peace within the two ethnicities. One of the cabinet members said that if the Tutsi’s were gone the countries problems would be solved. The genocide lasted for 100 days from April 6, 1994 to July 18 1994.
