Today in CWI we went over the Mexico map. This test will be in two weeks from now or around there. After we went over the map we watched the video again. Coral reefs works as coral barriers that help calm down the storms that come through. Coral bleaching is happening in lots of places. Coral reefs often die after bleaching. The water is eventually going to cover the entire island in a few years.Next they went to lake chad. It suffers from not enough water. It was the sixth largest lake in the world but in the past 40 years it has shrunk. The water crisis could be more than just climate change. Lake Chad borders four different countries. There are 37 million people that depend on Lake Chad. It has dried up before causing a long drought. Africas population is growing faster than anywhere in the world. They don't have healthy fish to eat. They used to be 60 grams now they are only a couple grams. They are getting sick because of food shortage. The poor diet makes all of them vurnable to disease. Lots of land is appearing and all the water is disappearing. Lake Chad's dissapearence is nto jsut because of global warming or over use. Its a combination of both. Most people that that global warming is affected by the people.20 percent of the jungle has been lost in the past 40 years. Perhaps as much as 80% is loged illegally. The distruction of this habitat continues. Cutting down and burning trees makes the ground more fertile. Farmers use this to make money. You don't hear any birds or buzzing insects in the jungle which is not good. Obama doesnt have enough personal to protect all of the animals. Everyday Obama agents stop every one they see and ask them what they are doing. They find a truck on the road and they say there are having car trouble and they are looking for a small animal. The people take them to their camp and find deer meat so the men are arrested. They could be in jail for 10 years. Then class was over and Bruns said we will finish the video Monday. Our blog topic this week is Rwanda.
