So today in CWI we started by going over the Latin America map. I dont' think that it's going to be that hard. Then we talked about the assigned blog that I still need to do. We then tried to find our spot in the video we watched yesterday which is called Panet in Peril. We then watched the video for the rest of class. They started on this little island. They thought that it might be sinking because of the melting ice caps , but then they went underwater to look at the coral reef. Coral reefs often acts as barriers and protect islands from storms. This coral reef they have though, is going through something called bleaching. Most coral reefs die after bleaching and this one has already started. So yes they are pretty sure that the island will be cover in a few years. Then they went to Lake Chad. It use to be one of the biggest lakes in the world, but over the past years it's been shrinking. It borders four different countries and there are about 37 million people dependent on Lake Chad and the nuber keeps growing. Many believe that is because of both global warming and over use. Many are getting sick from food shortage or just from not good fish itself, but it makes them all more vulnerable for diseases. After that they went to a rain forest. 80% of the trees are logged illegaly and 20 percent has been lost in the past 40 years. How sad is that? Some of it is done by small farmers. They burn the trees to make that ground more fertile and then farm there for a few years then move on. I think that's really sad. That's as far as we got today.
