Today in CWI we started off going over the Latin America test I know the map pretty well already because we were tested over it in spanish last year. After we went over the map we continued to watch "The Planet in Peril". Coral reefs work as coral barriers that help calm down the storms that come through. Now since global warming is occuring some coral reefs are becoming destroyed so we will not have that protective barrier. The coral reefs are turing grey and are little in marine life. Coral Bleaching is occuring. Many coral reefs die after they go through coral bleaching. Water from the ocean will eventually cover the entire island.Lake Chad used to be one of the largest lakes in the world but its disapearing and low on water sources, all because of global warming. It was once the 6th largest lake in the world covering almost 10,000 square miles. It has shrunk 96% and is pretty much just a giant sand pit. Chad borders 4 different countries. There are 37 million people that rely on lake chad. This is not the first time the lake has shrunken before. It happened 10,000 years ago. Africa is the lowest carbon promitter in the world yet it is still in a huge drought. Theres a fishing village called Norabomguoa (sp) that used to be located on lake chad but no longer is. There are is not any healthy wetland, which means there is not any healthy fish, which means unhealthy people. Many people in Africa are getting sick from lack of food sources. Even the Charry River is dispearing. Lake Chads disapearence is not just because of global warming or over use because its a combination of both.The earth's climate is changing its a fact. Many people say its man kind. But scientists have a different reason.The amazon rain forests covers 8 countries and holds 1/3 of the worlds species. Perhaps as much as 80% is loged illeagaly. Poverty plays a big role in Habitat destruction.
