Monday- Went over Asia maps and talked about Ferguson riots, semester test, and Ray Rice incident.
Tuesday- Wasn't there
Wednesday- Took class quiz.
Thursday- Talked politics.
Democrats are in favor of abortion because it is a woman's right to choose. Republicans think that life is life and should be illegal. Debated whether or not abortion was right or not. Burning flags is legal. Democrats are in favor of burning flags because we are free. Republicans are against it because it is a symbol. Democrats want tougher gun control. Republicans are opposed to gun control.
Friday- went over Asia maps. Big test next Wednesday.
The term 'genocide' did not exist before 1944. A polish-Jewish lawyer came up with this term. It is from geno which mean tribe and cide means killing. It means the act of killing lots of members from an ethical group. Also, it can be imposing measures to stop child birth. This is just to get rid of children which will eventually cause extinction of a race. It is all just to try to get rid of a race. Everyone's goal is to get rid of genocide. Ethnic cleansing is where we want to move people from one place to another. Mass killings is where you just kill a whole bunch of people because they don't trust them or like them.
Darfur- In Sudan which is in the western part of Africa. The Janjaweed (Arab, Muslim) went around and killed a bunch of men and raped a bunch of women. They were trying to force them out. They would kill villages and pollute their water. Arab people killing black African people. They want the land so are trying to take over that area. Killed 480,000 people and 2.8 million people have been displaced since the Genocide. Many went to the country of Chad. The government of Sudan is on the Janjaweed side. Giving them weapons and air crafts. 100 people died each day, 5,000 people died each month. Sudan government funding the Janjaweed. Signed a peace treaty of agreement to a ceasefire. Peace troops over there. Still on going, and very few people have heard of it. The UN raised alarm and have tried to find a resolution. It has become a top priority and were operating the largest AID effort. Giving lots of medical supplies to Chad and other placement countries. Some historians say this is the first genocide caused by global warming. Want the land because there isn't a lot of it.
Rwanda- South of Sudan. Killing of the Hutu and Tutsi. Rwanda and Burundi have been going against each other. Tutsi have been getting better education and are the majority of the people in Rwanda. Tutsi's are taller, smaller lips, and lighter skinned. In 1994, the Rwanda president was killed in a flight as it exploded. That really triggered the Hutu's to get mad at the Tutsi's. Over a 3 month period the Hutu's killed about 800,000 Tutsi. They used machetes. The Rwanda army, the police, and armies helped out the Hutu's. Governments and people all over are helping to stop this. The Hutu extremists were seen to start it. Tutsi military defeated Hutu regime. The Hutu's moved into DRC. The UN didn't do a lot. All they did was send peace keeping troops during the attack. The US didn't want to get involved in another African fight. We didn't call it a Genocide because we didn't want to have to go over and help out. President Clinton regrets not getting involved and doing more to help it out.
Armenia- Turkish empire came and killed the Armenians. They killed the men and deported the women and children. They would rob places and rape women and kids. They would take kids onto a boat and then push them off the boat. They would starve them and dehydrate them. They killed between 1-1.5 million people. Greeks and Syrians were also killed. They didn't like the ethnic group. They were scared the Armenians were going to help Russia out in WWI. The ottoman empire and the Turkish nation were responsible for this genocide. Took them into the Syrian Desert. Relief committees were formed and tried to stop the genocide. Also, rebel groups were formed to try to fight them off.
