( A mine going off in Darfur)This major conflict occured, or rather began around Feb. 2003. The SLA(Sudan Liberation Army) and the JEM(Justice and Equality Movement accused the government of Favoritism. They thought they were treating the Arabs better than the Blacks and other ethnicities/races.This war had to sides. On one side, forces were against the governments actions. They consisted of the Fur, Zaghawa, and the groups i've named above. The other army was made of the Janjaweed and Sudanese. Approximately three hundred thousand people have died because of disease, war, and famine. This, just like the mishap in Rwanda, is NOT being treated as genocide! I mean really, what is considered genocide today? The government was usingcertain tactics to try and come out of the smoke on top. They unjustly arrested innocent journalists so that their was a low amount of coverage on the story. Also, they tried to hide the true number of people who died by hiding or sheltering masses of dead bodies. Truly, why is it so hard for races and ethnicities of different cultures, to not hate, blame, or attack each other? The world has a long way to go.
