Darfur

The war in Darfur, Sudan is very much like the last blog that we did on the Rwanda Genocide. This war started on February of 2003 when the Sudan Liberation Army and Justice and Equality Movement thought the government thought that the Arab people were better than the blacks. They also thought that they were trying to hide large graves and for arresting the press so that not many people could no what was happening. The U.S sees is at a genocide but the UN does not. Many groups also think it is a genocide such as the Save Darfur Coalition, the Aegis Trust and the Genocide Intervention Network. May 2006 the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, signed a peace agreement with the government, but there was another part of the SLM lead by a different leader that did not sign it. August 2006 the UN was going to send in troops but Sudan objected and said that they would be seen as foreign invader.LOSSES:106 government troops killed. There are different estimates of different groups of how many people have been killed.UN Estimate: 700+ fighters killed 300,000 civilians killedSudanese Government Estimate: 9,000 civilians killedThere are also different estimates of people who have been displacedUN Estimate: 2,000,000Sudanese Government Estimate: 450,000Hmm….there is really quiet a difference in the numbers there which I think is very interesting. I believe that this is a genocide and it is a lot worse than what the Sudan Government is saying that it is.
