Declaration of War
On April 25, 1898 the United States declared war on Spain
The U.S. guaranteed Cuban independence after the war was over
Emilio Aguinaldo was the leader of the Philippine rebels the the U.S. allied with
Treaty of Paris - brought an official end to the war, Spain gave Cuba independence, U.S. got control of the Philippines (20 million)
The U.S. army was not prepared to fight this war
War lasted 3 months and 18 days
Roughly 3000 U.S. soldiers died in the war mostly of disease
