George Armstrong Custer was born on December 5th, 1839 in New Rumley, Ohio. He was a United States Army Officer and Calvary Commander during the American Civil War of 1861–1865 and the Indian Wars. He pledged allegiance to the United States of America (Union). He helt the ranks of Brevet Major General of Volunteers Lieutenant Colonel in the regular army. He helt commands in Michigan Brigade,3rd Cavalry Division and 7th U.S. Cavalry. In the Civil War Custer served in some well known battles such as, First Battle of Bull Run,Peninsula Campaign, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg Campaign and Battle of Gettysburg. The Custer family emigrated to America in the late 17th century from the Rhineland in Germany.George was born to Emanuel Henry Custer a farmer, black smith and Marie Ward Kirkpatrick. He married Elizabeth Clift Bacon in 1864.He died in the Indian Wars on June 25, 1876 during the battle of Little Bighorn. All of his troops also died from the attack, the indians were taking no prisoners and making sure all the Americans had been killed. The Indians were retailiating from a pervious attack by the army that killed children and women.I believe without Colonel Custer flighting the troops there would of been a lot more casualities in the wars where he had been commanding. He's a bright military general and did good for his country in my opinion. It's to bad he got killed in that slaughter of Little Bighorn.
