The American Civil war was called the war between states. It happened between the years 1861-1865 in the southern united states. The civil war started when eleven southern slave states declared secession from the U.S. and formed the Confederate States of America. The Confederates were led by Jefferson Davis. The U.S. federal government (union) was supported by the free states.
The first fight was on April 12,1861 at which the Confederates attacked at Fort Sumter,South Carolina. After many battles between the two sides confederate general Lee finally surrendered to union commander Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox court house though the war didn`t officially get over untill May 13.
The Civil war was considered the deadliest war in American history with 620,000 soldiers dead it was also the end of slavery.
