as more Americans started to go to school, the curtural standards started to go up. mass production led to more books, magazines, and newspapers.

because we were able to mass produce, we could mass circulate newspapers. in order to get the audiance caught in it, they used interesting headlines to capture the people's attention.

Josepsh Pulitzer was from Hungary and was in the newspaper business and tried to become the best. so he decided to include "sin, sex, and sensation" into his sunday paper. but the rival, William Randolph Hearst, also had an idea to outdo Pulitzer. his plan was to fill his papers with false and exaggerated personal scandels, cruelty, hypnotism, and even imaginary conquests of Mars. that began in 1883 and 1885, and so by 1898 each paper sold one million copies per day.

around 1900 freee circulating libraries were in the thousands in america. as literacy rate rose, scholars and top educators debated how big of a deal literature was in society. Mark Twain waas such and inspiration that many other authors came to write. The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn is famed for its tale of life on the Mississippi River.
