Chapter 15--John Maynard Keynes--

John was the oldest in his family and he had two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. He was born into a middle-class family. His father was very supportive of him. He was taught at home in his earlier years. When he went to school the teachers said he was brilliant, but he could be careless. He had some health issues and that caused him to be gone from school a lot. He received a scholarship and he showed a liking of math, history and classics. He was in a class of mostly upper-class kids.

He was part of a debating club and it had the smartest students in it. After he graduated he still went to like some of the meetings and stuff. Before he left the school he became the president of the “Cambridge University Liberal Club”. After he graduated he still would go back to the school frequently. John always had a positive mind and when faced with a situation he would always believe that he could solve it.John started writing a book and it was published in the 1930’s. The name of the book is “Treatise on Money”. The purpose of this book was to say that if “the amount of money being save exceeds the amount being invested then unemployment will get higher.” He wrote another book in 1933 called “The Means to Prosperity”, and this book talked about how to handle unemployment in a recession. Copies of the book were sent to President Roosevelt and the other leaders of the world. U.S. along with the British took the book very seriously. His ideas were then taken into consideration because of his amazing book.

This guy writes a lot of books. He published another book in 1936 called, “General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money.” I don’t really know what this book is about because the paragraph used too many big words and I couldn’t understand. The magazine, “Time”, wrote an article about John saying that his book, “General Theory”, was one of the most influential of the time. They also went about saying that he was one of the most important economists that lived.I think that John had a very big impact with the Great Depression because of all the books he wrote. He helped the president and other world leaders in deciding on what they should do about the situation. He also helped common people because he talked about how to get over unemployment and stuff like that. I think he was a very good person and he was very smart.Source 1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Maynard_KeynesSource 2: http://homepage.newschool.edu/het//profiles/keynes.htm
