Franklin Delano Roosevelt or known as FDR was born into a plethora of wealth. Frank entered the “system” in 1910 and slowly worked his way up the ladder. Although he was struck with a devastating virus in 1921 known as polio, he wasn’t going to let that deteriorate his life. He was able to work his strength back up and eventually was able to stand accompanied by leg braces. Roosevelt earned his way into the White House in 1933. He had a great compassion for understanding and helping people. He believed in reform which made him a good leader at this desperate time.
The New Deal – The New Deal focused on three general goals: Relief for the needy, Economic Recovery, and Financial Reform. This “Deal” lasted from 1933 to 1936. Many thought of the deal as unconstitutional. The first New Deal mainly targeted banking, railroads, industry, and farming. The second new deal promoted labor unions. Maximum hours and minimum wages were also set during this time. This deal basically gave companies tax breaks and which in return helped them get back on their feet. Many programs were developed during this time but most didn’t last over a decade. Some of these programs were, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Housing Administration, Social Security, and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. Roosevelt decided to deny giving WW1 veterans compensation money which helped out a lot. And making it so our Americans could consume alcohol again made it an easier going society.
All in all the combination of The New Deal and WW2 brought our country almost out poverty and gave the middle class a chance again. Also being able to produce sell and drink alcoholic beverages had a significant change in our economy.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_DealChapter 15 from textbook
