Carol Moseley-Braun
Carol Moseley-Braun was born on August 16,1947 in Chicago Illinios to a woman named Edna and a man named Joeseph. Joseph was a Chicago police officer and Edna a medical technichian. Education was very important to them.Carol's education included attending public schools from childhood until teenage years. She was a hard worker and held two jobs one at a post office and another at a grocery store.Then in 1969 she graduated from University of Illinios and earned her law degree.By 1972 she graduated from the University of Chicago. Carol work three years as a prosecuter. Then in 1978 she was elected to the Illinios House of Representatives. This is where she earned her reprutation as a stateswoman. She was able to comprimise people who were of all races who were committed to efficient goverment. When Moseley-Braun was elected for a state representative she made sure that education was on of her top priorities. In 1985 she was cheif sponsor of the Urban School Improvement Act. This provided higher salaries for teachers . After two terms in the House, Carol was selected to be the first African American Woman to serve as assistant majority leader in Illinois. Moseley-Braun sponsored many bills to help reform education and ban discrimination. She was also given many awards for her amazing acts. Carol Moseley-Braun was elected to the U.S senate on November 3, of '93. This achievment opened new doors of opportunity to African Americans. She was only the 2nd to ever be elected to the U.S. Senate. Again she emphasised education and also health care. She fought endlessly to create social programs. She is truly an amazing women and works very hard on improving the education for everyone.
