6 year old Richard Chekevdia went missing in late 2007. His parents were fighting over the custody of the young boy. His mother,Shannon Wilfong, kidnapped Richard and went to her mother's home in Franklin County, Illinois. The home had many hiding spaces where the boy could have been hidden.
Shannon WilfongOn Friday, while doing a search of Wilfong's mother's home, they found the boy and his mother in a small room hidden behind a wall. Richard was physically fit and doing very well. His father, Mike Chekevdia, a former police officer who's a lieutenant colonel in the Illinois National Guard, was very happy to have him home before his 7th birthday, which is on September 14. When they released Richard from the car, he ran around outside like it was the best thing in the world. He told his father he hadn't been allowed outside the entire time. The entire family is thrilled to have Ricky back, safe and sound.
Mike and Richard ChekevdiaPersonally, I find this a very sad story. It's a shame she couldn't sort the custody agreement out with her boyfriend, and had to result to kidnapping her own child. The fact that her mother aided her in this crime, is really sad. My mother would never let me do that, not that I would anyway. I am very happy that Ricky is in good health, and back with his family, safe and sound.
