Bloody Sunday

In March 7, 1965 600 civil rights marchers were attacked by local and state police. The police used billy clubs and tear gas to stop the marchers from completing there march. The march was supposed to be from Selma to Montgomery, along highway 80.

Three weeks prier to the march, approximately half the black population of Selma had been denied from registering to vote. Martin Luther King Jr. called for the march form Selma to Montgomery so to protect black registrants. Governor Wallace denounced the march as a threat to public safety, and stated he would take all measures necessary to prevent it.

The marchers only made it six block when halted by the awaiting police. Brutal images of the attack were published.

This was an example of how close minded people can be. Discrimination against people of a different race to me is not acceptable.
