Today we went over the Asia map again. Then we got caught up with people who need to talk about Inhofe's article. We then talked about Iraq. Saddam Hussein joined a political party and then eventually took over the government. He got most of his power in 1979. He stopped the religion of Islam in the country, the Sharia law. He gave women some new rights, so he did do some positive things. He was very strict person, he did not like the Kurds so he would capture them and give them gas attacks.Iraq went to war with Iran in the 1980's, which we actually helped them out at that point. He invaded Kuwait, then that led to Persian Gulf War. Saddam Hussein had taken over Kuwait because Iraq said that Kuwait had oil rigs, and they invaded them because of it. Iran kind of won that war. Iraq was in major debt after war, he basically went into their country to pay off some of the debt. America didn’t think it was right, so we wanted to free Kuwait from Iraq control, anddidn't want them to have some of our oil. He was executed on the beginning of an Islamic holiday.3Madison
